Bulls Improve to 3-0 This Season vs. MJ’s Bobcats

Sunday smorgasbord: The visiting Chicago Bulls defeated the the Charlotte Bobcats 89-87 Saturday. Meaning the Bulls picked up their third victory vs. the Bobcats this season. You may remember the owner of the Charlotte franchise, a fellow named Michael Jordan. Why His Airness is not part of Bulls ownership after all he did for that franchise is a story for someone else to tell another day. Suffice it to say the Chicago sports landscape — and Jordan himself — would have benefitted from such a relationship.

* Speaking of MJ, it’s interesting to see how his competitive zeal has not translated to success — on-court or otherwise — for the Bobcats. Their biggest victory under his reign will come next season when the franchise returns to its initial nickname of Hornets.

* Speaking of the Bobcats, that was the first NBA team that guard D.J. Augustin played for. He had a team-high 28 points, including 15 in the fourth quarter, for the Bulls. He also was 6-of-12 from three-point range and had a minus-4 rating for his time on the court. Yet without him, chances are the Bulls lose. So I’ll still try to find out someone who can tell me the importance of the plus-minus ratings.

* Speaking of the Bulls’ plus-minus ratings vs. the Bobcats, rookie Tony Snell (nine points on 3-of-5 from three-point range) had a team-best plus-11 in 25 minutes. Even more impressive was guard Mike James with plus-8 in four minutes.

* Bulls center Joakim Noah had 11 points, 10 rebounds and eight assists. Meaning he surely must be leading the NBA in almost-triple-doubles.

* The Pro Bowl is Sunday in Hawaii. If it is not the worst pro sports all-star game, then it has to be tied for worst. And instituting a format that creates teams the way we used to do on the playground by choosing sides — rather than the NFL actually designating AFC and NFC squads — does nothing to improve the game. Well, unless adding gimmicks is your way of improving a game that had minimal significance to begin with. On the bright side, the game does feature cheerleaders. At least commissioner Roger Goodell and his cronies didn’t mess that up. Well, not yet.
