Matters of the heart seem an appropriate subject on Valentine’s Day. As in the Chicago Bulls have shown a lot of heart — and some offense — lately as they have moved two games better than .500 for the first time since November. The 92-76 victory Thursday at home against the Brooklyn Nets has the Bulls with the fourth-best record in the Eastern Conference. Which probably says more about the Eastern Conference than it does about the Bulls.
* Thanks to the all-star break, the Bulls (27-25) are off till Feb. 19, when they travel to play the Raptors (28-24), who have the third-best record in the Eastern Conference. Meaning that game actually will mean something to both teams. The schedule-makers must have known something no one else did.
* Speaking of schedules, the Chicago Cubs appear to be ahead of schedule. Not in terms of rebuilding. In terms of injuries. Pitcher Jake Arrieta, an offseason acquisition from the Baltimore Orioles, has shoulder tightness and will have a late start to spring training. If it’s any consolation to Cubs fans (and the guess here is that it is not), he was penciled in as the team’s No. 4 or No. 5 starter. And the Cubs have a roster full of pitchers who fit that category. Oh, joy.
* Speaking of Sports Illustrated’s Swimsuit Issue (OK, so no one was around here; that doesn’t mean we can’t start now), the cover of the 50th anniversary issue was revealed on the “Jimmy Kimmel Show” Thursday night. Featured are Nina Agdal, Lily Aldridge and Chrissy Teigen. All three are scheduled to appear on Monday’s show. This is what we like to think of as a public service for our readers. As well as a reason to run a photo and video of the three lovely ladies.
