No better way to start the new year than by watching some college football bowl games, some Chicago Bulls basketball and then some more college football. Along with feasting on an assortment of snacks and beverages.
No worse way to start the new year than to have internet and work-related problems when you’re attempting to write about the aforementioned sporting events. OK, I can think of a lot worse ways to start the new year. But at 3:15 a.m. or so, it can seem fairly traumatic. And, yes, on some level I do call this work. To be honest, it seems like more of an addiction. The day/night/whatever doesn’t seem complete until I have finished crafting together the brilliance that is this page typing and assembling photos and videos for your consumption.
And so I shall craft together this precious package type quicker than normal (as if anything is normal around here). So that might explain a greater number of typographical errors than normal (same parenthetical verbiage about “normal” goes here).
* The Bulls won, though not impressively against the visiting Denver Nuggets 106-101. Derrick Rose (17 points continued to struggle with his shooting (7-of-25, which even your humble correspondent is fairly certain is 28 percent; and even more certain that really not good). Then again, Rose had gone 7-for-35 in his two previous games. So he’s improving, right?
* Speaking of Rose, he had 13 of his points in the fourth quarter on 5-of-11 shooting.
* Still speaking of Rose, he was better than former Bulls guard Nate Robinson, who was 0-for-7. So there’s that. Fortunately for the Bulls, Jimmy Butler (26 points, eight rebounds, eight assists) and Pau Gasol (17 points, nine rebounds, nine blocked shots) had good nights. The Bulls posted a franchise-record 18 blocked shots. It also helped that Denver isn’t a particularly good team.
* In the world of college football, Florida State and Alabama lost bowl games. Which seemed to delight a certain segment of fans. Oregon humbled FSU, while Ohio State beat No. 1 ‘Bama. The winners meet Jan. 12 for the national championship. Wisconsin beat Auburn, and Michigan State stopped Baylor, as Big Ten fans reveled in such success. Don’t tell those folks about Missouri defeating Minnesota.
* There was a lot of delight on social media about the Southeastern Conference’s dismal showing. A fair amount of “S-E-C u later” and such. It seems unclear whether college football fans root for teams to the same degree that they root against teams. As for me, I am a Missouri alum, so the Tigers’ triumph was sufficient. After that, about all I was rooting for was for the internet to work. Which it did — long after all the games were over. But still before some of you wake up. So my mission is complete once again. Well, it will be after the videos and photos are taken care of.
One benefit of being up late was to be online when the 2014 JaytheJoke.com Holiday Cookbook arrived in cyberspace. Once again, maestro Bill McCormick has assembled a variety of taste-tempting recipes from contributors around the globe (possibly from other galaxies as well; still to be determined). Some of the recipes are out of this world. And yours truly has contributed to the cookbook, too.
Here is the link to the JaytheJoke.com Holiday Cookbook. Enjoy. And did you know the cookbook is free. And worth every bit of it.
