Some people say Brian Scalabrine of the Chicago Bulls and actor Will Ferrell look alike. Or similar. Or something like that. OK, Scalabrine looks more like the Jackie Moon fictional basketball player whom Ferrell portrayed in the 2008 movie “Semi-Pro.” But that would seem to be about as close as it gets.
One thing is certain: Scalabrine and Ferrell are not the same person. Both were on hand for the Bulls-Hornets game Wednesday (Feb. 8) in New Orleans. Ferrell provided the pregame player introductions; Scalabrine provided three minutes on the court for the Bulls, who prevailed 90-67.
Bulls forward Carlos Boozer said after the game: “We’re all Will Ferrell fans. One of the funniest dudes of our generation.”
Even if Ferrell’s introductory effort wasn’t the funniest material he ever has had to work with. His intros for the Bulls:
* Derrick Rose: “His favorite movie is ‘The Notebook.’ ”
* Carlos Boozer: “He still lives with his mother.”
* Joakim Noah: “He’s a Scorpio and is a terrible dancer.”
* Luol Deng: “He collects rare birds and has a pet dolphin named Chachi.”
* Ronnie Brewer: “He once ate 20 hot dogs in an hour.”
OK, let’s go to the video:
As anyone familiar with this site knows, one of the favorites around here is April Rose. She seems sufficiently recovered from her weekend in Indianapolis for Super Bowl XLVI where she had duties at Maxim parties.
Who knew Brandon Jacobs could run a reverse so swiftly?
The New York Giants running back apologized Wednesday night for remarks he made Tuesday at the Super Bowl champions’ ticker-tape paradeout Gisele Bundchen, wife of New England Patriots quarterback Tom Brady.
Supermodel Bundchen was caught on videotape saying in the immediate aftermath of the Patriots’ loss Sunday (Feb. 5): “”My husband cannot f—— throw the ball and catch the ball at the same time. I can’t believe they dropped the ball so many times.”
Not the brightest of comments.
To which Jacobs added his even less bright remark Tuesday to reporters: “She just needs to continue to be cute and shut up.”
Somebody must have informed Jacobs how bad such a statement sounds. So he went on “The Doug Gottlieb Show” on Wednesday and said: “Given the fact that it’s a colleague of mine’s wife, I do apologize for saying that, because I shouldn’t have said that. It’s his wife and I should respect that just as much as anyone else.”
Hey, even if Gisele wasn’t a colleague’s wife, he shouldn’t have made the statement. Jacobs did remain steadfast about her being “cute.”
“No question, he should take that as a compliment,” he said. “If he finds something wrong with that, then that’s his problem.”
Giants defensive lineman Osi Umenyiora backed Bundchen: “I mean, that is her husband,” he told reporters. “She is supposed to stay out of things like that, but at the end of the day that is their relationship and she has the right to say whatever she wants to.”
So no need for her to apologize?
“Nah, she shouldn’t,” he said. “Listen, man, we just won the Super Bowl. We are not saying nothing about no one, whatever her name is.”
All the editorial staff at elliottharris.com knows is all this provides another reason to run another photo of the Brazilian beauty, whatever her name is.
Speaking of attractive females (as occasionally occurs around here), figure competitor and personal trainer Helena Chansky will be an in-studio guest on Thursday’s (Feb. 9) “Sports & Torts” show with David Spada and Elliott Harris on talkzone.com at noon Chicago time.
Helena took home a trophy at last year’s Arnold Festival in the figure event. She also is scheduled to participate in this year’s event, which will be held March 1-4 in Columbus, Ohio.
Also scheduled to be part of Thursday’s “Sports & Torts” are legendary announcer Pat Summerall and former NBA standout Nate Thurmond. For those unable to tune in for the live show, the program will be available on podcast.
