Dance Fervor Regarding Rose a Misstep

February 28, 2012 @ No Comments

Random thoughts while wondering whether fans would have criticized Chicago Bulls superstar Michael Jordan for not dancing during all-star game introductions (the guess here is they would not have, so why did some folks think Derrick Rose should have done so — especially when he never has demonstrated any inclination to do so in public?):

Leaving the dancing to Megan of the Luvabulls -- rather than to Derrick Rose -- should work for Bulls fans.

* The Chicago White Sox look for Adam Dunn to have a better season than he did in 2011. Not to say he struggled, but chances are pretty good, he won’t suffer as much in 2012 as he did last season. Unless he has another appendectomy. Then again, it’s not every day a big-league batter hits about 130 points lower than his weight. Lucky for him, he weighs a lot. Or not so lucky, depending on how you view his .159 average. Unfavorably would be about the only way to see it.

* New Sox manager Robin Ventura says he might work Dunn a bit at first base. Assuming someone can point Dunn in that direction in case he has forgotten where it is.

* Chicago Cubs reliever Kerry Wood loses to manager Dale Sveum in the team’s bunting tournament. It appears the rookie manager is attempting to put the fun in fundamentals. Something says by Memorial Day Sveum will be dealing with the mentals of some of his players.

Scottie Pippen bobbleheads will be given away Tuesday.

* The ever-diligent editorial staff at elliottharris.com has seen a billboard promoting the Cubs with Sveum the solitary figure featured. Gee, they are taking the Sox approach of using the team’s manager as a selling point. Well, that is what teams occasionally do when they don’t have players they want to use as selling points. If Dale Sveum is going to sell tickets, the Cubs might have him do so by telephone instead.

* Does anyone — other than those directly involved in the league — really need to have the NFL a year-round presence on the sports landscape? Same thing goes for all the other pro leagues during their offseasons. Which is one way of saying the Chicago Bears will sign running back Matt Forte to a contract one way or the other — provided that they want to. Let me know after it’s a done deal.

* The Bulls are giving away Scottie Pippen bobbleheads at their game Tuesday (Feb. 28) while supplies last. United Center gates open at 5:30 p.m. for the 7 o’clock game against the New Orleans Hornets. (editor’s note: It’s extremely difficult to give away things after supplies are exhausted)

* The Academy Awards drew a television audience about five times that of the NBA all-star game. The Oscar for worst scheduling apparently goes to whoever in the league office approved going up against the Oscars. Now if you still had Oscar Robertson playing, you could have promoted Oscar vs. the Oscars. Plus players on each team had the same uniform. Meaning TNT’s Craig Sager couldn’t ask each one: “Who are you wearing?”

How did you spend Saturday? Well, some of us spent it in the gym. More than four hours there. A hard-core gym, too: USA Gym in Bridgeview, Ill. What a workout. It was great. Next time, I might even do some exercising rather than merely be an observer for a photo shoot involving IFBB pro and trainer Nicole Moneer Guerrero (whose photos you may remember seeing around here) with photographer Don Bersano (whose work you may remember seeing around here).

If things go according to plan (and on occasion they actually do around here), you will see more of Nicole’s photo shoot for the next few days. Here’d a nice pair — of videos — in what should be at least a three-part series:

And now, for some April Rose “Maximum Exposure” video:

OK, so this site has been a little neglectful of soccer, especially women’s soccer. So here is Alex Morgan. It is merely coincidence that she is featured in a Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue video that deals with body-painting:
