Greater Clarity = Greater Success? Ask Sox, Cubs

Monday meanderings: With rookie manager Robin Ventura, the Chicago White Sox are in first place by one-half game in the American League Central with a 38-34 record. With new manager Ozzie Guillen, the Miami Marlins are in fourth place, eight games back in the National League East with a 34-38 record. ESPN.com estimates the Marlins’ chances of reaching the postseason at 1.5 percent with the Sox’s estimate at 74.8. What this all means is unclear.

Amanda Jemini is the new Hooters International Swimsuit Pageant winner.

* Just so Chicago Cubs fans won’t feel slighted, their postseason chances are 0.1 percent. What this means is clear.

* Not sure what your highlight of the weekend was, but having the opportunity to speak Sunday (June 24) to a group of young women aspiring to be dancers/cheerleaders/pro hockey team skating cleanup crew members, etc. at the Going Pro Entertainment Expo Chicago at HiFi Fitness was mine. Thank you to Wynne Lacey for letting me be a part of her session, and thank you to Laura Eilers for bringing the Expo to town. If things go according to plan (and every once in a while, they actually do), there will be more video from the event coming soon (meaning this week or next with Wynne, Laura and others).

* Something says the highlight for Monday will be attending the Chicago Baseball Museum event at U.S. Cellular Field. Dick Allen and other members of the 1972 White Sox are scheduled to attend. More importantly — for some of us — also scheduled to attend is Nancy Faust, the team’s long-time organist who retired after the 2010 season. For information about the event, you can click here.

* Speaking of lovely ladies, congratulations to Amanda Jemini for winning the 2012 Miss Hooters International Swimsuit Pageant. Here’s hoping she makes a Chicago visit sometime soon. In the meantime, you (and I) will have to settle for some video from the event Saturday night (it’s there if you scroll down a bit).

* Chicago Bulls forward Luol Deng responds to reports that he might be traded to the Golden State Warriors for the No. 7 overall pick in the 2012 draft by saying: “Whenever you hear your name in a trade, that means there is somebody at the other end who wants you. As much as I want to stay on the team — I love Chicago, I love the Bulls — at the same time, I know the business part of it.” As if there’s something other than a business part of it.

* The addition of Kevin Youkilis to the White Sox lineup gives the appearance the team is becoming tougher. Not necessarily tougher to beat; simply tougher. Oh.

* Running back Matt Forte and the Chicago Bears … uh. never mind. Let me know when he stops trying to negotiate in the media (or when the media stop asking questions about ongoing negotiations) and there is some resolution to all that.
