Amnesty for Bulls’ Boozer? What About Others?

July 4, 2014 @ No Comments

Happy Fourth of July — even if by the time you are reading this, it no longer is July 4 (because you had better things to do or stayed off the internet?). Time to take a moment to be thankful those of us in the United States live in the land of the free and home of the brave. Or a country that generally approximates those ideals.

April Rose also is always welcome around here. Even if she isn't blond these days.

* Speaking of independence, if the Chicago Bulls have the ability (not to mention the inclination) to amnesty forward Carlos Boozer, how is it that the U.S. Congress cannot see its way to figuring out legislation that would allow amnesty for those immigrants in this country who aspire to become Americans?

* In keeping with the previous paragraph, some people need to realize the days of white majority rule in government is fading — more rapidly in some parts of the country than others. Look at sports to assure those who want to hold onto the past that the world will not end if non-whites dominate. Baseball, basketball and football used to be solely the domain of white athletes. That has changed in the last century — for the better. OK, I will get off my Fourth of July soapbox and see if the hot dogs and hamburgers on the grill are ready.

* Speaking of July 4, once upon a time that was a day when big-league baseball would have doubleheaders. There are few doubleheaders nowadays; and when there do exist, they tend to be the day/night variety, so that the ballpark can have two crowds to go through the gates. Sometimes remembering yesterday takes on a grand and glorious past that is looked upon as grander and more glorious than it actually was. When it comes to holiday doubleheaders, the past was a blast.

* As far back in the standings as the Cubs and White Sox are, they both are poised for one — or two — of the greatest comeback(s) in baseball history. OK, either that or they both will finish last in the divisions.

* For those reading this on July 4 who are going to play with fireworks, please be careful. Even though this site averaged more than 38,000 hits per day in June, we still would like to have as many folks stop by this space as possible. Happy holiday. And for those who work on July 4, hopefully it will be happy holiday pay.
