The Chicago Bears defeated the team with the worst record in the NFL 27-21 on Thursday night (Oct. 10) at Soldier Field. That team would be the New York Giants (0-6). People — OK, merely some (possibly most) — will say the Bears (4-2) were unimpressive in winning. Believe me, they would be saying a lot worse if the Bears had lost.
* Speaking of believing, believe it or not, Eli Manning of the Giants is a Super Bowl-winning quarterback (twice, in fact). He threw three interceptions against the Bears (one that Tim Jennings returned for a first-quarter touchdown). Manning has an NFL-leading 15 interceptions this season. Something says his brother Peyton Manning will not reach that number for the entire season as Denver Broncos QB.
* Speaking of QBs, Cutler went 24-of-36 for 262 yards and two touchdowns. An even more impressive number for the Bears offense: no turnovers. And even more impressive: no sacks. The last time they didn’t allow a sack or have a turnover in the same game was Dec. 23, 2007, in Green Bay. Guess it definitely was a throwback Thursday.
* Bears receiver Brandon Marshall, who has been mentioning — though he says he wasn’t complaining (uh, sure, whatever he says) — about his lack of offensive opportunity, led the team with nine receptions for 87 yards and two touchdowns. Alshon Jeffery, who set a team record for receiving yardage on Sunday, had two receptions vs. the Giants. Something says he will not be as vocal as Marshall was about his diminished opportunities.
* With the Bears playing on Thursday night, that means they are off on Sunday. Which will cause more than a few folks a bit of a problem in finding an excuse not to do household chore that their significant others might want on Sunday.
* Speaking of softball (OK, so we weren’t actually), the Chicago Bandits are looking to make some offseason moves. Well, in reality the National Pro Fastpitch team is looking for interns. The Bandits’ openings are in community relations, graphic design, marketing, public relations, team operations and ticket sales. Information is available by clicking here.

Speaking of “Sports & Torts,” the highly acclaimed interview program co-hosted by David Spada and Elliott Harris (well, it is highly acclaimed in the Spada and Harris households as well as reportedly elsewhere), the Oct. 10 show featured Playboy Playmate Carly Lauren (Miss October) and football greats Bruce Smith and Larry Allen. For those who were unable to tune in at noon Central time on Thursday and/or for those who would like an encore performance, you can enjoy — well, we certainly hope you enjoy — the show by clicking here.
Former tennis ace Anna Kournikova and singer Enrique Iglesias reportedly have split after more than 12 years together. As some of you may recall from your humble correspondent’s days as Quick Hits sports columnist at the Chicago Sun-Times, Anna long has been a favorite. It is unclear what the future holds for her, but we wish her nothing but the best. And for the readers of this site, we wish you nothing but a couple of videos of Anna from the fine folks at Maxim magazine:
