It’s winter. It’s cold. It’s snowy. Surprise (not really other than perhaps for the degree of lack of degrees and the depth of snow accumulation). So for people to trek to the United Center to watch the Chicago Bulls play the Minnesota Timberwolves was something of an accomplishment. Unfortunately for the fans in the stands, the game — much like the weather — was not so hot. The Timberwolves defeated the cold-shooting Bulls 95-86. Bulls center Joakim Noah left the building before the game to go home because of illness. The big ill to go with the big chill that is Chicago these days.
* With their loss, the Bulls are 22-22 and about to head out on a road trip against Western Conference teams. Meaning this likely is the last time they will be at .500 until they have a chance to play several Eastern Conference opponents in February.
* There is nothing quite like media day at the Super Bowl. It tends to be more of a spectacle than any source of information, but that is fine with the folks at the NFL. When the highlight of the event is some attractive female from a foreign-language media outlet captures the imagination of a fair number of the folks present, that can’t be all bad, can it?
* Yes, it is cold outside (and in some places, inside as well). Which explains why we have decided to run a photo of IFBB bikini pro Larissa Reis. Any questions, protests, etc. may be sent to this site’s complaint department. Well, you could direct your emails in that direction, if there actually was a complaint department. Chances are the complaint department will be up and running right after we install the compliment department.
* Speaking of cold weather (which the folks in New Jersey will be able to enjoy on Super Bowl Sunday), I have decided to try to have a warm-weather mind-set by consuming glasses of orange juice. Before and after shoveling snow. D’oh!
* The Chicago Cubs and the Wrigleyville rooftop owners are battling over a billboard sign the team wants to install in right field. It’s unclear why the Ricketts ownership group thinks it doesn’t have to abide by a contract it signed with the rooftop owners. Of course, the Cubs can put a dent into the rooftop business by continuing to field sub-par teams. Maybe that’s part of the team’s grand plan. Which doesn’t sound so grand or so much like a plan.
* Legendary singer/songwriter Pete Seeger died Monday at age 94. Nothing much to do with sports, but his music was incredibly powerful.
