Cubs/Sox Competition a CSN Trivial Pursuit?

May 17, 2012 @ No Comments

Chicago Cubs and White Sox fans are gearing up for another crosstown series that will begin Friday (May 18) at Wrigley Field. To them, the meeting between teams not yet (and possibly not this season) in contention for division titles is anything but trivial.

What is a trivial pursuit is an open casting call for a new Comcast SportsNet program “The Batter’s Box,” a Chicago baseball trivia show. It is to debut on CSN in July. Auditions will be held Friday from 6-9 p.m. and Saturday 3-6 p.m. at Kincade’s Bar & Grill, 950 W. Armitage. Aspiring contestants must be 21 or older.

Audition hopefuls will take a brief quiz and go on camera for 30 seconds to state their case why they should be on the show. Sixteen participants will be selected.

* Speaking of CSN, Sox broadcasters Ken “Hawk” Harrelson and Steve Stone will call Friday’s game and Cubs broadcasters Len Kasper and Bob Brenly will call Sunday’s. CSNChicago.com will stream the press conferences of Sox manager Robin Ventura and Cubs manager Dale Sveum. There also will be additional pregame and postgame coverage. CSN will provide postgame coverage of Saturday night’s nationally televised contest. Nobody asked the editorial staff at elliottharris.com, but one of these years CSN ought to co-mingle the broadcast teams so that one Cubs and one Sox representative is in the same booth at the same time. Fair and balanced? Maybe not, but a definite change of pace.

The Chicago Sky trimmed its roster to 11 for the 2012 WNBA season that opens Saturday (May 19) on the road against the Washington Mystics. Former DePaul standout Felcia Chester-Wootton, who played four games last season with the New York Liberty, was the final cut. She is married to Chicago Bears player Corey Wootton, who attended the Sky exhibition game May 10 at New Trier High in Winnetka, Ill. Here is a video of Felicia from the Sky’s media day:

Boxing manager Jackie Kallen

If it’s Thursday (and at last look, it certainly was as this was being typed), it must be time for another edition of “Sports & Torts” at noon Chicago time on talkzone.com. Scheduled guests include WGN radio legend Roy Leonard, former NBA player and coach Al Attles and boxing manager Jackie Kallen, one of the sport’s few females in such a capacity. For those who unable who are unable to take in the program live with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris, it will be available later in the day on podcast. The photo to the right is of Jackie — in case anyone was confused about who it might be. For those who would like to become part of “Sports & Torts,” there are advertising opportunities on the show (though no guarantees of being able to be in the studio when one of the attractive females is there). For information and rates, contact david@injuryinillinois.com.
