Midweek musings: The Indianapolis Colts are severing ties with future Hall of Fame quarterback Peyton Manning. The Chicago Bears are doing likewise with backup Caleb Hanie. It’s the end of an era in Indy and an end of an error in Chicago.
* Speaking of quarterbacks, Tim Tebow of the Denver Broncos supposedly was asked to be on ABC’s “The Bachelor.” To which he tweeted: “Haha rumors can be crazy! Even though I’ve watched the show before, I’m definitely not gonna be on the Bachelor.” Too bad, the show offers his best opportunity to complete passes on a regular basis.
* Given the time that Chicago Bulls guard Richard “Rip” Hamilton has been sidelined by injury (the latest being a shoulder), you’d think he might be able to secure some sort of endorsement deal from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Illinois, Humana or another company like that. Maybe also a rehab center or two?
* The Chicago Cubs hope catcher Geovany Soto — sidelined since Feb. 18 by a groin injury — will make his Cactus League debut on Saturday or Sunday. Catcher Jason Jaramillo is sidelined by leg problems. It appears the Cubs could be well on their way to leading the Cactus League in injuries.
* Speaking of injuries (OK, those that haven’t occurred yet this season), right-hander Jake Peavy makes his Chicago White Sox Cactus League debut Wednesday (March 7).
* Speaking of the Cubs winning the World Series (OK, even if we weren’t), here is a commercial that features the Wrigley Field residents capturing their first championship since 1908. This may be as close as they come for a few years:
The latest “Play-By-Playmate” offering from Playboy Playmate Jaime Edmondson is available. It discusses NFL bounties (thank goodness, so we don’t) and a tournament bracket that likely many folks in cyberspace will find much more satisfying than anything NCAA basketball-related. To check it you you can click here.
At the 2012 Arnold Sports Festival, Nicole Wilkins captured her third consecutive Figure International title in Columbus, Ohio. For her career, the Michigan native has compiled an impressive body of work. She was gracious enough to spend some time talking about winning her third Arnold title and more:
OK, so one of these days the videotaping staff at elliottharris.com will learn to stand a little farther away from the subject matter — especially when the subject is a formidable figure such as Nicole — to give the viewer a better perspective.
Thankfully, others have shot video that does a much better job. It is purely coincidental that the following video is of Nicole in a bikini rather than workout attire. Here is some footage of Nicole from a photo shoot with Gregory James. He also was the fellow in charge of the MuscleMag booth that featured eye-popping models. Yes, he gets to call it work. But it is work; it merely is a lot better than what most folks call work.
Meanwhile, back at last weekend’s Arnold Expo …
What do bikini competitors do when they aren’t competing? Some are like Stephanie Mahoe — who participated in the 2011 Arnold as a bikini contestant. Stephanie was at the 2012 gathering but not to compete. She was one of the attractive females hired by companies to promote their products. While you don’t win any trophies for working booths at the Arnold, you also have a much lower level of stress.
Plus you never know what 2013 might bring — another opportunity to go onstage and compete always remains a possibility.
Stephanie was gracious enough to take some time to chat during the Expo:
