Fearless Forecast: Bulls Will Clinch Playoff Berth

March 28, 2014 @ No Comments

Friday’s fearless forecast: The Chicago Bulls will clinch a postseason berth before the month is over. Well, one more victory (or one more New York Knicks loss) accomplishes that. So maybe that’s not so fearless.

* The basketball analysis department around here will not go out on a limb and predict a Bulls victory Friday against the visiting Portland Trail Blazers. Of course, we won’t predict a Bulls loss either. This is one prognostication that we can guarantee.

* The Big Ten Conference will have at least one team in the NCAA basketball tournament’s final four.

* The Chicago Cubs and White Sox will have better seasons than they did in 2013. Given their woeful records of last season, it would be almost impossible do worse this year. Of course, should either team actually have a worse won-lost mark in 2014, rest assured that higher-ups in the organization will point to the future and successful development of their prospects in the minor leagues.

* At least one of the faces on the Cubs’ media guide — Starlin Castro, Anthony Rizzo, Jeff Samardzija or Travis Wood — will be traded before the end of July. Feel free to check back in a few months and offer praise to your humble correspondent for being correct. Feel free to not check back in a few months in the case that there is no deal.

* Single-game tickets for the WNBA Chicago Sky will go on sale at 11 a.m. on April 1. No fooling. Information is available at 866-SKY-WNBA and at www.chicagosky.net. OK, so this isn’t so much a fearless forecast as it is a public service.

* Every NFL team will be thrilled with every offseason acquisition and draft pick it makes. Every offseason acquisition and player drafted will be thrilled at going to a new team.

* The grass at the Masters golf tournament in April will look greener than any lawn you see the entire summer in the Midwest.

* Speaking of summer, at some point in July and/or August, folks who weathered a brutal winter will be complaining about the temperature and humidity being so high.
