Thursday thoughts: If Peyton Manning had been healthy for the 2011 season, chances are he would be returning to the Indianapolis Colts for the 2012 season — in no small part because the Colts wouldn’t have had a rotten record that would have allowed them to select Stanford QB Andrew Luck. But Manning wasn’t, so the Colts released him. It’s business, folks.
* Speaking of business, the folks at www.Bovada.lv have posted odds on what team Manning will be a member of when the 2013 regular season starts:
Miami Dolphins 2/1
Washington Redskins 13/4
Seattle Seahawks 7/2
Arizona Cardinals 7/2
New York Jets 21/4
Kansas City Chiefs 21/4
* The Chicago Bulls’ victory over the Milwaukee Bucks Wednesday was exciting with Derrick Rose hitting a game-winning basket as time expires. Exciting, not particularly meaningful as far as postseason play is concerned and good practice for taking the last shot. Maybe Miami Heat star LeBron James will take a look to see how it’s done.
* The best thing about spring training is a fan can take something away from a loss and feel just as good as — if not better than –a fan whose team won.
In case you missed the shot that Derrick Rose did not, here is the game-winner from the Bulls-Bucks contest Wednesday in Milwaukee:
If it’s Thursday (which I’m pretty sure it is, as I type this), it must be time for “Sports & Torts” at noon Chicago time on talkzone.com. Co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris have a lineup of former NBA stars Oscar Robertson and Gene Shue plus Francine Slobodnik. She is not a former NBA star. Or a current one. Or even a future one. She is, however, the Class A bikini amateur champion from the Arnold Sports Festival that was held over the weekend in Columbus, Ohio. The competition was the first for Francine. Even better, she will be in studio for the show. At least that’s the plan.

Speaking of The Arnold, among the highlights for yours truly was having the chance to chat with Monica Brant, regarded by some as the most important woman in fitness. Monica is a former fitness competitor, who won the 1998 Ms. Fitness Olympia. She also is an IFBB professional figure competitor and has appeared on countless magazine covers, including the January, 2011, Oxygen. Monica also is a trainer and conducts seminars. Her web site is monicabrant.com.
With some assistance from friend/weightlifter Therese Janc, your correspondent was able to chat with Monica, who took time out from signing autographs and posing for photos with some of her fans:
Speaking of fitness, here is Kayde Puckett, a pro fitness competitor at the Arnold Sports Festival:
