Sometimes life can be so overwhelming. Overwhelmingly good, overwhelmingly bad. So to anyone anguishing about Northern Illinois University’s football team losing the Mid-American Conference championship game to Bowling Green 47-27 on Friday in Detroit, please remember there are far greater things in this world to bring you such anguish (or euphoria). Of course, this reminder applies to any contest, big or small.
* And to all the Jordan Lynch proponents (and detractors) regarding the possibility of the NIU quarterback winning the Heisman Trophy, let the record show he ran for 126 yards (and two touchdowns) to improve the season record for yards rushing by a QB in major college football. He also threw two interceptions in going 21-of-40 for 219 yards. Let the record show the fans who shouted “No more Heisman! No more Heisman!” after he tossed an incomplete fourth-down pass showed a definite lack of creativity — not to mention class.
* Chicago Bears coach Marc Trestman says injured quarterback Jay Cutler will not play in Monday night’s game agains the visiting Dallas Cowboys. The quarterback’s high ankle sprain is a real pain — to the success of the team and to assessing Cutler’s value in terms of being with the team in 2014. You want to spend big bucks on him? Value is in the eye of the beholder; oh, and in the eyes of the player’s agent.
* Speaking of value, the Seattle Mariners reportedly have a 10-year, $240 million deal with second baseman Robinson Cano? Is the fomer New York Yankees star worth that sum? Well, is anyone for anything? Spare the outrage. Spare the lamenting how athletes and celebrities are vastly overpaid and folks in other walks of life — teachers, military, fire, police, etc. — are vastly underpaid. Life is not fair, the research staff at elliottharris.com has learned.
For those who missed the Dec. 5 “Sports & Torts” show with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris on Talkzone.com, here is Decmber 2 Playboy Playmate Kennedy Summers. Because of technial difficulties, the interview is not as long as the ones we generally enjoy with Playmates. Here’s hoping the visuals will offset any shortcomings.
