Apolo Ohno is known more for his feats on the ice than for his feet on the ground. Even so, the world champion short-track skater is to compete in the Sept. 11 Chicago Half Marathon and Karhu 5K.
He is doing so as part of training for November’s New York City Marathon and as part of his role as a Subway Famous Fan. He is oa healthy, active lifestyle.
“Running the Chicago Half Marathon is the perfect preparation before I tackle my first full marathon in New York City in November,” Ohno said. “Running a marathon is something that I’ve never done and thanks to Subway, I’m taking on this exciting new challenge and learning about all the intricacies of a new sport and fitness activity. My entire career has been built around races that last minutes, not hours, so I am working on conditioning my body in an entirely distinctive way from my short-track days. I hope my journey can serve as an inspiration for others to meet their health goals and ultimately make smarter nutrition and lifestyle choices that will help them fulfill their personal goals.”
“We are incredibly excited that Apolo Ohno chose the Chicago Half Marathon as one of his training milestones,” said Gerald Laird, founder and CEO of US Road Sports and Entertainment. “The Chicago Half Marathon will be a great step in his training program and we are honored to have him as a participant.”
