Peace.
Of mind. Of spirit.
For mankind (there’s a certain irony in that word, especially when one looks at what is going on around the world — far and near). For each and every one of us.
Anyway, today is Christmas (provided that you are reading this on December 25, 2014 — or a subsequent December 25 — and yes, I do know certain style books have months abbreviated rather than spelled out). So today we take pause and your humble correspondent takes the day off. Well, part of the day. Back to work later. Hey, somebody has to watch at the very least the Los Angeles Lakers play the Chicago Bulls at the United Center. Right? Even if it is from the comfort of a sofa rather than at the game itself.
One of the joys of Christmas came when yours truly worked in the wonderful world of newspapers (well, it used to be wonderful) and worked on that day. Sometimes doing so meant a colleague could have the day off; sometimes it meant holiday pay — and sometimes both. The tranquility of travel on those Christmases was unlike other days. Minimal traffic. Holiday tunes. Joyful. Religious and otherwise. Classic melodies of melancholy made for mental trips back in time followed by tears for those we wished to be near.
The reality: Life and sports go on. And I could and still can live with that.
To all who stop by this site on a regular or irregular basis, your presence is your present to me. I have no gift to reciprocate with other than the great creative output the words, photos and videos that I put together daily. Meaning some folks somewhere probably are thinking they really got the short end of the deal on that one. Ho, ho, ho!
May you all enjoy this day. And every day.
Peace.
Here is where to go for a daily dose of non-gratuitous video (thanks to the efforts of the editorial and video departments at ElliottHarris.com). But first, an anagram for “Santa Claus” is “anal ass cut” — well, and also “a class aunt” and “casual ants”:
Normally, in this space we say: “Advertising opportunities are available on ElliottHarris.com. For information and rates, contact sales@ElliottHarris.com.” But because today is Christmas, we won’t do that so we can avoid any complaints about being blatantly commercial. Because Christmas is so blatantly non-commercial. Or something like that.
