There’s nothing quite like having the Minnesota Twins come to town for the Chicago White Sox to look once again as if they might be contenders in the American League Central. To make a Sox fan feel even better is knowing the Twins (15-29) are tied for the worst major-league won-lost record this season — with the Chicago Cubs. According the projections by ESPN.com, the Sox rate the favorite in the division to reach the postseason with a 50.5 percent likelihood. Division-leading Cleveland, which is visiting the Sox Friday (May 26), is 48.2, and third-place Detroit is 25.3.
Tennis, anyone? With model Bar Refaeli, most definitely.
* Speaking of the Cubs — who had to consider Thursday as something of a highlight for the week (it was a day off) — they have yet to win three consecutive contests this season. At some point, they will win three in a row, although it’s unclear what the toughest part is: winning that third game or the first two? Or, at the moment for the Cubs who have lost their last 10, the first one. Their chances of winning the National League Central? To put it into numbers, it would be something like 2016 (and, that’s being optimistic).
* Jerry Sloan, the former Utah Jazz coach and Chicago Bulls star guard of yesteryear, is interested in returning to coaching in the NBA at age 70. “I’m supposed to talk to Charlotte [Friday], and beyond that I haven’t talked to anybody else,” he told SI.com. “I wouldn’t talk to them if I wasn’t interested.” Other known candidates: Patrick Ewing, Nate McMillan, Dave Joerger, Mike Malone, Nate Tibbetts, Mike Dunlap and Stephen Silas. Owner Michael Jordan, whose Bobcats had the worst record in the NBA this season, tormented Sloan and his Jazz teams. Hiring Sloan sure would seem to provide even more opportunity to be tormented.
* Speaking of NBA job vacancies, Shaquille O’Neal has declined the chance to interview for the Orlando Magic general manager’s opening. The former Magic center apparently enjoys going one-on-one on television with Charles Barkley in the studio than he would trying to deal with the team’s troubles that include center Dwight Howard’s health and desire to depart. As far as Shaq’s post-career decisions go, this one was a slam dunk.
* A reminder that the Orland Park Jack Brickhouse Benefit will be held May 31 at 94 West Steak and Seafood, 15410 S. 94th Ave, Orland Park, to benefit the Pediatric Oncology Treasure Chest Foundation. The event, which is to run from 6:30-10 p.m., will include food buffet, drink and live auction. Advance tickets are $50 for adults and $20 for children younger than age 12. Tickets at the door will be $60 and $30. Tables of 10 can be reserved for $500 and include one of the celebrities scheduled to attend. Set to serve as bartenders are former Bears Bob Avellini and Dan Hampton, former White Sox pitcher Billy Pierce, former Sox organist Nancy Faust, former Sxo player Eric Soderholm, former Bulls star Bob Love, former Notre Dame star and 1953 Heisman Trophy winner John Lattner and some guy named Elliott Harris. Maxim’s Hot 100 list came out the week with Bar Refaeli on top. For those wanting to debate whether she merits that position, go ahead. Here is a video that quickly lists the Hot 100:

The WNBA Chicago Sky (1-0) opens its home schedule Friday (May 25) at the Allstate Arena in Rosemont. The Sky is hoping the addition of players such as Ruth Riley and Swin Cash will help the team finally reach the postseason.
