OK, so the White Sox had a little trouble with the Detroit Tigers over the weekend.
For Sox fans to give up would be like for Gen. George Custer to give up after the Battle of the Little Bighorn.
Oh, wait. he was killed in that disastrous skirmish (look it up in a book in a library, if you’re familiar with such structures; or you even could find out about a little history here on the Internet).
Well, nobody on the Sox suffered quite the fate Custer and his troops did in 1876. And since the crosstown Cubs seem to have the trademark on ”Wait Till Next Year,” it’s a bit unclear what stance Sox fans should adopt. One thing they know is they don’t want to adopt Adam Dunn’s stance — unless they want to strike out with regularity approaching that of the sun rising.
There still is hope for the Sox this season. Hope for what exactly isn’t quite clear. Hope for the youngsters who have come up recently and done well. Hope that domestic tranquility will somehow be restored between general manger Ken Williams and manager Ozzie Guillen (OK, so that’s about as likely to occur as the Tigers waiving Justin Verlander any day now). Hope that somehow, some way, some day the Sox will be able to look forward to another World Series appearance rather than back at one six seasons ago.
