Midweek musings: With a 121-115 victory against the visiting Sacramento Kings Tuesday (Feb. 14). the Chicago Bulls guaranteed Tom Thibodeau would be the coach for the Eastern Conference in the Feb. 26 NBA all-star game. Some folks have suggested Thibodeau have Miami Heat stars LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh play all 48 minutes. Not going to happen. Of course, someone might need to tell Thibodeau that reserve Luol Deng won’t be able to log 40-plus minutes the way Thibs has been using his small forward (OK, cue some Deng video).
* Of the all-star coaching honor, Thibodeau said, “It’s more a by-product of what the team has done.” Either that, or the opposition has tended to be a product that most fans wouldn’t buy.
* The Chicago White Sox have obtained former Cubs outfielder Kosuke Fukudome. Something says Sox fans will refer to him by his last name. OK, by the first two syllables of his last name. OK, with a different pronunciated of the first two syllables of his last name. Although to those unfamiliar with his last name, it sure does look like a dome where interesting activities just might occur.
* Not to say that the Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue might interfere with work, but a headline on si.com proclaimed at one point Tuesday: “Back spams to sideline Bulls’ Rose.” It sure looked as if someone was focused on swimsuits — unless Chicago Bulls guard and the reigning NBA MVP Derrick Rose had internet and/or canned meat problems. Hey, if SI’s swimsuit special doesn’t distract, nothing will.
* Speaking of the swimsuit extravaganza, about the only way it could be improved would be to have New York Knicks phenom Jeremy Lin part of it.
* Speaking of Lin (who provided another incredible comeback victory and hit the game-winning three against the Toronto Raptors on Tuesday), anyone wanna bet that an Eastern Conference all-star opts out of the NBA all-star game and commissioner David Stern finds a way to have him added to the roster? OK. cue the video:
* Nothing says (or said) Valentine’s Day quite like the Matadors performing at the Bulls-Kings game (Feb. 14) at the United Center (and once again we cue the video):
It’s continuing coverage — or uncoverage, as the case may be — of the 2012 Sports Illustrated Swimsuit Issue. On Tuesday night, cover girl Kate Upton appeared on “The Late Show With David Letterman.”
Earlier in the day, she was on “Today.”
For the complete coverage of the magazine’s pictures, videos, etc., nothing compares to si.com. Of course, we will do what we can around here to provide some content — for those who don’t have all day to peruse all the pulchritude.
