Random thoughts (or something close to them) while wondering how many carries Chicago Bears running back Matt Forte will have Thursday night at Soldier Field against the Dallas Cowboys:
Julie Bonnett is the cover model on a 2015 calendar.
* Forte on the importance of a ground game (or at least the semblance of one): “It’s of the utmost importance, especially if we’re playing outside with the weather and stuff. You can’t just sit back there and throw 50 passes a game and expect to win.”
* The Bears (5-7) are aware they need to run the ball more than they did in a Thanksgiving Day loss at Detroit when the rushed eight times and had 48 pass plays. And then there’s also the need to be more productive, whether it’s passing or running the ball. Minor details.
* Not that it is likely the Bears will dismiss coach Marc Trestman (mainly because they still would owe him money on his current contract, but is there anyone out there who single-handedly might be able to make the team a championship playoff contender? The uneducated guess here (as if there’s anything other uneducated guesses here) is there is not. Not unless perhaps Vince Lombardi is coming back from the dead.
* Speaking of Bears coaching possibilities and uneducated guesses, New York Jets coach Rex Ryan (son of former Bears defensive coordinator Buddy Ryan) took another step toward being available with his team’s 16-13 loss to the Miami Dolphins on Monday night.

Still speaking of Bears coaching possibilities, something says Carolina Panthers coach (and former Bears linebacker) Ron Rivera very well could be available after this season.
* And, yes, still speaking of Bears coaching possibilities, the name of San Francisco 49ers coach (and former Bears quarterback) Jim Harbaugh has been floated out there in media land. It’s unclear the Bears would be willing to give up draft picks to obtain him (although given the team’s draft success — or lack of it — what’s to lose?) It’s even more unclear why Harbaugh would want to come to a team that is third-best in its division (and that’s on a good day/season).
* Still trying to figure out what the Bears’ biggest problem is: players, coaching, management, ownership? Possibly all of the aforementioned and more. Now there’s a comforting thought. Well, it is if you’re an opposing team.
* If it’s any consolation to Bears fans (and the guess here is that it not in the slightest), Cowboys quarterback Tony Romo receives as much criticism as — if not more than — Bears QB Jay Cutler. Both are capable to throwing interceptions that lead to critical losses. The main difference being, of course, Cowboys fans are more accustomed to enjoying a postseason presence than Bears fans are.
