Wild Day for Jaramillo, Adam Dunn, Yanina

June 13, 2012 @ No Comments

Midweek musings: The Chicago Cubs fired heralded hitting coach Rudy Jaramillo on Tuesday (June 12). So he was the problem with the team’s offense — or lack thereof. Gee, the Cubs’ new regime of president of baseball operations Theo Epstein and general manager Jed Hoyer still occasionally is willing to go old school. Who knew?

Tasteful and fashionable: Yanina and the coconut top of her "Love in the Wild" swimsuit.

* Adam Dunn of the White Sox hit his 21st home run and struck out twice Tuesday in St. Louis in a 6-1 victory over the Cardinals. He trails Josh Hamilton of Texas has 22 homers for the American League lead. While that battle could be close all season, Dunn is well on his way to leading in two other categories. Dunn has struck out 98 times, 22 more than his closest competition. Dunn had 48 walks, five more than anyone else. Teammate Paul Konerko leads in hitting (.373) and on-base percentage (.452). Dunn ranks 15th in on-base percentage (.367) and has the lowest batting average (.227) in the top 15 in that category. Making contact with the ball on a consistent basis over-rated? Perhaps in Dunn’s case.

* Alex Rodriguez hit his 23rd grand slam Tuesday. Meaning he tied Lou Gehrig for the big-league record. Any similarity between the two — other than playing for the New York Yankees — pretty much ends there. Not sure any illness would want to be named for A-Rod.

* The Oklahoma City Thunder defeated the visiting Miami Heat 105-94 in Game 1 of the NBA Finals. Kevin Durant had 36 points for the Thunder and LeBron James 30 for the Heat. As a master basketball expert, your humble correspondent will go out on a limb and say the Heat won’t win the best-of-seven series unless it can win one — and possibly two — games on the road.

In the never-ending quest for quality material for this space, what better place to be Tuesday night than the rooftop of Market Bar in Chicago. After all, White Sox general manager Ken Williams does have a stake (or is that a steak?) in the establishment, right? And a former member of the Chicago Blackhawks Ice Crew was there, too. There she was: Yanina, a native of Argentina, who has moved beyond skating skills to providing dating thrills (vicariously) as a cast member of NBC’s “Love in the Wild” series that airs on Tuesdays at 9 p.m. Chicago time.

She and Tim, another Chicago resident on the show, were part of a viewing party on a wonderful night. A little cooler than some in the crowd might have anticipated, but definitely an enjoyable evening with an abundance of lovely ladies (let the record show there is no such thing as an over-abundance of such wonderful women).

As part of the festivities, after the second episode of the show was over, Yanina had a cake brought out for Tim. The reason for such generosity was Tim was ousted from the program — in no small part because he had smashed cake in partner Summer’s hair. Guess Tim could have his cake and eat it, too. Well, after he wiped some off his face.

If things go according to plan (and occasionally, they actually do), “Sports & Torts” with David Spada and Elliott Harris will feature a video interview with Yanina on the show Thursday (June 14) on talkzone.com. Also scheduled to appear is former NFL star and broadcaster Frank Gifford. The show airs lives at noon Chicago time and also will be available later on podcast.

Speaking of favorite females such as Yanina, the lovely April Rose is back with another of her Maximum Exposure videos. This one feature Melanie Iglesias:
