Winning Perspective on ‘Best Legs’ Competition

The evening’s entertainment choices Wednesday (June 6) came down to viewing possibilities such as the Chicago Cubs, the Chicago White Sox, Game 6 of the San Antonio Spurs-Oklahoma City Thunder Western Conference finals, Game 4 of the Stanley Cup finals — all on television. Well, there was one other alternative: get off the couch and be a judge for a “best legs over 40″ contest at Estate in Chicago as part of Shari Duffy’s Ladies Night Chicago event.

This is not the outfit that Hadley Allen wore to Summer Soiree.

You’ll never guess what the decision was. OK, maybe you will. It was the judging duties. Why not? After all, this could be the steppingstone to bigger and better things. Such as the Supreme Court. OK, maybe not.

Anyway, it was a fun event. Part of the post-judging experience involved interviewing artist Rosemary Fanti (the video is featured below). Another part was spent chatting with Paul Duffy, Shari’s husband, with whom I discussed baseball — among other topics.

During the course of our conversation, he mentioned the 1919 Black Sox and mentioned Marvin Miller, the former chief of the baseball players union, thought the players were treated unfairly. As fate — or coincidence (for those of us who are more inclined to believe in the latter rather than the former) — would have it, Miller is scheduled to appear Thursday (June 7) on “Sports & Torts” with co-hosts David Spada and Elliott Harris at noon Chicago time on talkzone.com. The program also will be available on podcast for those unable to tune in for the live effort.

Also scheduled to appear are 1949 American League Rookie of the Year Roy Sievers and lovely Lariyah Daniels, the multi-talented model, personal trainer, singer with the group Hessler, bikini competitor and more. Of the three guests, only Lariyah will be in studio. If there had to be only one guest to make an in-studio choice, Lariyah no doubt would have come out on top in the voting.

Speaking of voting (and getting back to Ladies Night Chicago) and such things, among the other judges were lovely Lisa Lockwood, Geoff Pinkus, Shelley Howard and Chet Coppock. There might have been someone else as a judge, but some of us became slightly distracted when the contestants started parading around. Let the record show lifting of skirts was optional. Which probably was a good thing, considering some contestants — such as the winner — wore form-fitting attire that didn’t leave much wiggle room to be able to do so easily.

And the winner was Hadley Allen, who has appeared in this space and also was a guest on “Sports & Torts.” Let the record show that everything was on the up-and-up and no one tried to have any undue influence creep into the voting.

Also part of the scene for the “Summer Soiree” was artist Rosemary Fanti, who drew illustrations of some of the folks attending the event. Very nice work, if an untrained eye may say so. Here is a video interview with Rosemary (please excuse the lack of lighting):
